Streetz Ahead Creative Housing is dedicated to providing trauma-informed care specifically tailored for children and young people living in residential children’s homes. Our model draws from leading practices in trauma recovery, youth care, and transitional housing, with a focus on growth and self-sufficiency. The care provided serves as a crucial foundation for children to begin their healing journeys from trauma, allowing them to build resilience and develop healthy coping mechanisms.

I believe every young person should leave Streetz Ahead with the opportunity to build a life they are proud of.
For me, that starts with home. When a young person lives with us, this is their home, somewhere they can settle, feel comfortable, be themselves and create a life that feels like their own. Birthdays, Christmas, holidays, meals, celebrations, laughter and the everyday moments all matter. So does knowing there is a trusted adult who will be there, listen and celebrate alongside them. That sense of belonging gives young people the confidence to look beyond what they know and discover what they are capable of. We want young people to experience the world. To see different places and cultures, try things they have never tried, discover interests and talents, meet new people and
have opportunities that broaden what they believe is possible for themselves. We want them to have experiences that become memories and achievements that make them proud.
Our relationships make that possible. We build trust through consistency, showing up, listening without judgement and keeping our promises. Our trauma-informed approach helps us understand each young person as an individual, while giving them the encouragement and belief to keep moving forward. We are incredibly proud that Ofsted have rated our Supported Accommodation Outcome
They found children at Streetz Ahead “make extremely good progress from their starting points” and recognised that children are actively involved in creating their “personalised and ambitious” support plans. For us, that ambition is fundamental. Support is more than where a young person is today. We recognise their ambitions, believe in what they can achieve and give them the confidence to aim higher. Most of all, I want young people to surprise themselves. To achieve something they never thought they could, experience something they never imagined they would, and leave us knowing that their future can be bigger than they ever expected.

Each young person receives a bedroom allowance to choose things that make their space feel personal and their own. Across the home, colourful and welcoming spaces are designed with our young people, for them.

Streetz Ahead is built on the Sanctuary Model, a well-regarded trauma-informed approach that prioritises safety, trust, and empowerment for children and young people who have survived trauma. This model fosters a supportive culture proven to improve healing and recovery outcomes in residential care settings.

Smaller, family-style homes — These intimate, home-like environments mimic traditional family structures, helping build deeper trusting relationships between caregivers and children, leading to better emotional and behavioural progress.
Comprehensive staff training — Staff receive in-depth trauma-informed preparation, including PACE (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, Empathy) to nurture safe, trusting connections and boost emotional resilience, plus Team Teach for safe de-escalation and positive behaviour support.
Positive risk-taking — Encouraged within safe boundaries, this empowers young people to step beyond comfort zones, building resilience, self-reliance, and confidence essential for trauma recovery.

Our team
Kirstie O'Connor
Director of Safeguarding,
Support and Accommodation
QCF level 5 in Health and Social Care, Certificate in Counselling and a Business Management HND Safeguarding Leadership Kirstie has been working with children and young people in social care for the past 23 years, starting her career at a very young age as a volunteer in a school for differently abled young people in Gloucestershire. Kirstie went on to work with Shelter and Glofysh supporting homeless young people aged 16 - 25 with housing advice and support. Later, Kirstie worked with young adults who had been made homeless and supported them to gain qualifications and employment whilst living in supported accommodation. Kirstie went on to manage some of the highest levels of supported accommodation in Gloucester over a six year period. This housing accommodated homeless and disadvantaged young people from under-resourced areas within the city. Kirstie became a team manager, transitioning into an operations manager within a year, successfully developing supported housing placements across the South West. Kirstie then started to support struggling therapeutic childrens' homes, offering a consultancy service to create recovery plans which ensure standards are raised so gradings of 'good' and 'outstanding' can be achieved. Kirstie strongly believes being part of the lives of these young people is a privileged position, and that every child and young person must be given the best opportunities in life, no matter where their starting point.
